UMass Black Student Union Poetry Jam 2010

 This Poetry Jam was dope!  As a part of BSU, not only did I help put the event together and do the PR work for it but I also performed!  A lot of the poetry I do is very personal so for a while I did not want to perform in front of my peers but I finally was able to put my self out there and it felt so good to do so.  I performed one of my favorite poems, "The Lucky One" and blew people away.  Also, I was soooooo blown away myself by our guest performers Brook Yung & Alexis Marie!  Inspired is an understatement!  Shoot, I was so inspired, after seeing them perform, I wanted to RUN home and start writing! (lol)  Till' this day, sometimes I randomly think about their thought-provoking words.  SALUTE to you both!!!

Despite the "tomboyish" side of me, I am still a woman who loves to keep it sexy.  What can I say, that's just me! ;)  I rocked this shoot!  I love the theme, expression, capture...colors.  I styled myself from my makeup to my outfit.  I always style myself & recently began styling others as well.  I was going for a sexy "queen of the jungle" theme.  I picked out my outfits that I knew would look good with my background and fit the theme I was going for.  I knew what I had in mind would be a dope combination and so my vision came true!

This track was originally suppose to be a verse but I loved the finish product so much that I am currently working on the full song which will appear on my first mixtape.  A well known DJ was blown away when he heard this track.  He said he couldn't believe a young woman like myself just killed a Nas track like that.  What can I say, REAL hip-hop flows through my veins!

You can refer to me as a rapper but I rather be referred to as an artist.  To me, there is a huge difference.  My style is diverse and I can't wait to prove it to the world.  I rap and sing on occasion and I like to experiment with different beats, genres etc.  I am just getting warmed up baby!

This is one of my favorite shoots that I have done.  I loved loved LOVED shooting in front of this mural!  I always have visions of my shoots before I do them and as soon as I saw this mural as me & the photographer were walking down the street, I just knew I had to shoot in front of it!  Notice how my outfit matches it too ;).  Just like my other passions, modeling is a form of art to me.  I love being in front of the camera and I love setting up a creative look, theme or elements that somewhat tell a story or make a statement.
